Visual comparison between Paris and NYC, designed by Vahram Muratyan, a Parisian art director. Love, love the whole idea, the illustration style and the font choice. I adore the macaron vs cupcake one :)

It’s especially amazing for people who have been to both cities and can relate to the whole concept, but it’s also informative (e.g. the one about the tipping) for someone like me who have never been to both. I love it. Would definitely look great hanging on the wall!

Those are two of my favorite things to do. I haven’t been doing both of those this past couple of weeks. We’ve been eating Panda Express, KFC, and frozen dinners (my poor hubby!), because I’ve been really busy preparing for our first show (which is this coming weekend!).

That’s why looking at these charming recipe illustrations from they draw and cook makes me want to go through this week quickly so I can go back to cooking and eating home-made meal again. And of course drawing as well :)

I’ve been seeing lots of cool, inspiring state-inspired design + illustration works. Here are some of my favorites:

This one is a USA map illustration covered with hand-drawn type about how neighborhoods around the U.S. got their names. How cool is that? Created by Micah Lidberg for Good magazine (found via Kitsune Noir).

This one is by Amy Ruppel, inspired by her home state, Oregon. Hope she’s making this a series with the other states, too! :)

Every designer in the blogosphere know her. This one is by the oh-so-brilliant Jessica Hische.

Last but not least, this one is illustrated by one of my favorite artist, Katie Daisy. Utterly talented and sweet!

I’m constantly blown away by illustrators, especially children book illustrators, who have such a distinct style. I came across one of Yoo Byun‘s work through Share Some Candy and I was totally smitten. Her illustrations have such a lovely color palette and they’re just delightfully whimsical.

It’s no secret that I love children books a lot. On my spare time (which rarely ever happened these days), I often go to the library and browse around their children book collection. I was on Flickr the other day and stumbled upon vintage children book collection by trywhistlingthis. She also did a marvelous job of keeping track of the author and illustrator names. What a delight!

Missed Connections

I had no idea that something on Craiglist can turned into such beautiful arts. If you are as clueless as I was, read the article right here.

Sophie Blackall, an editorial + children’s book illustrator, was inspired by the heartfelt messages on Craiglist New York’s missed connection forum and thus the Missed Connections project was born. It is basically an ongoing series of paintings based on real, anonymous messages posted online by lovelorn strangers. I love her illustration style and the way she convey some regular messages into a work of art. Besides, all these true stories are just so interesting.

All of these beautiful illustrations are on sale over at her Etsy shop.

Saelee Oh’s Illustration

New artist crush! :) Saelee Oh‘s works has that lovely charm. Looking at her illustration, I felt like being taken to a dreamy fairytale world somewhere. I love her color palettes. I especially adore the way she combines illustrating and paper cutting art. I am a fan.

Looking at works from talented artists like her makes me want to take an illustration class. :)

These ones are from her recent solo exhibition called “Tangled Tales“.
